The Four Store
Formats
The four retail formats were created to meet consumer
demand for convenience, neighbourhood shopping as well as for full
service hypermarkets. Having access to local and international
expertise and specialist knowledge of all areas of retail and
distribution we provide ongoing support to our International SPAR
Partners.
The SPAR brand is continually
spreading through the introduction of new formats in existing
markets or by launching stores in a new area. Benefiting from the
international experience, SPAR Partners are able to jump several
phases of market evolution and take a step ahead of the competition
in their local marketplace, one of the benefits of the SPAR
Partnership.
Innovation in product categories,
unique departments and a good private label offer forms a part of
the store layout of all four formats. Buying agreements with store
equipment suppliers also enables Partners to use the most
appropriate interior elements at the best possible price.

SPAR - neighbourhood
store
The core SPAR supermarket format has led a renaissance in
neighbourhood retailing, through constant modernisation of stores
across Europe. The majority of SPAR stores are independently owned
and operated. As a result SPAR has a place in the heart of the
community, being close to its customers in location and also in
values.

INTERSPAR
The INTERSPAR hypermarket is the largest SPAR store
format.
This store design is successful mainly in Central Europe. Most
stores not only sell a vast range and depth of consumable products,
but also household goods and clothing.
Along with new country development
the hypermarket store has been introduced in China, Russia and
India creating a new kind of retail experience for shoppers that
previously didn't exist in these locations.

EUROSPAR
These larger supermarket formats, usually over 1000 m2, are aimed
at the weekly family shopping. The format has seen an increased
popularity and growth in numerous markets. EUROSPAR focuses on
price, value and the SPAR own brands. It has proven to be a key
source of growth for SPAR countries in recent years. Mostly
EUROSPAR is popular in Austria, Italy, Spain and South Africa where
these stores are known as SUPERSPAR.

SPAR Express
SPAR Express provides customers with everything they need
when they need it. With extended opening hours and a highly
convenient product assortment SPAR Express are responding to the
changing demographics and the continued rise of single and two
person households. The number of stores is continually rising,
focusing on transient locations such as petrol station forecourts,
railway stations, airports and city centres.
