New Keynsham EUROSPAR store opens

Cllr. Roy Staddon, Chairman of Keynsham Town Council has opened the doors of the West Country’s first EUROSPAR supermarket.

The former Somerfield store in High Street, Keynsham has been redeveloped in recent weeks by new owners Appleby Westward, the regional distribution company for SPAR in the south west.

It has reopened as the West’s first EUROSPAR supermarket, a new concept to mainland Britain. There are currently only two others in England – at Nottingham and Sheffield – and a further two in North Wales.

In Ireland, EUROSPAR has grown to 30% of SPAR’s total retail sales there in under five years of operation. Customer reaction to EUROSPAR has been extremely positive with these stores growing to become an integral part of their local communities.

EUROSPAR is a modern supermarket shopping experience that accommodates the big family weekly trolley shop with an extensive range, value lines and strong promotions, as well as offering the traditional benefits of a local store. The customer focus is on fresh foods and food services, along with an extensive range of branded products and SPAR own brand, all backed by strong promotions. In addition, the store features a hot food-to-go area serving hot drinks and offering a wide ranging service including freshly-made baguettes, hot savouries such as bacon sizzlers, doughnuts and a variety of pastries.

Appleby Westward supplies goods and services to 300 independent SPAR shops across the West Country from its base in Saltash, Cornwall. The company’s new retail division plans to open 20 new EUROSPAR stores in the West Country over the next ten years.
